We would jump right into exploring each verse, after we have presented the whole psalm again to rekindle our memory.
Psalm 23: The Lord is my Shepherd!
1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
2 He lets me rest in fields of green grass
and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.
3 He gives me new strength.
He guides me in the right paths,
as he has promised.
4 Even if I go through the deepest darkness,
I will not be afraid, Lord,
for you are with me.
Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me.
5 You prepare a banquet for me,
where all my enemies can see me;
you welcome me as an honored guest
and fill my cup to the brim.
6 I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life;
and your house will be my home as long as I live.
And what does the 1st verse say?
The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
The Lord is my lead, guide, handler, deliverer…etc; I have everything I need because the Lord is the constant and continuous provider.
Another way to say this is, I have everything I need because the Lord is my Shepherd. God is there for me. The Lord is with me – Emmanuel, my Messiah!
He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.
The Lord directs me to where I get my supplier (the Lord is my supplier), and the Lord quenches my thirst. The Lord knows what is best for me and furnishes me with them.
He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths, as he has promised.
The Lord gives, replenishes, restores my strength, he doesn’t just provide the food but sustains my health, ability and capability. The Lord doesn’t just lead me, He also guides me to sure paths to guarantee my success in life. The Lord fulfils his promises and ensures I attain what he has said concerning me.
Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me.
God is my insurance and assurance in every situation in life. This is because the Lord is my companion and my protector.
You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honored guest and fill my cup to the brim.
God elevates me, promotes me; God gives me visibility and honours me; God gives me favour! And in the midst of others, He ensures that I am constantly and continuously supplied to the full. God gives me abundance, influence, and affluence.
I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live.
I am confident in God’s faithfulness, blessings, charity, and mercy throughout my life. And God is my hope, my desire, and my destination.
Without doubt, you would agree with me that this prayer is loaded. There are many things embedded in the words of the Psalm we must explore and meditate upon whenever we pray or sing it. I need not tell you that you must take time out each day to pray this psalm in deep meditation. And may the good Lord be to you what you have called Him in the psalm. Amen!
Shalom
