Read 1 Kn. 3:5-9
Come to think of it, suppose Dangote comes in now and requested that you should ask for anything from him and he will give it to you, what would you ask for? What would you ask for?
Some of my parishioners responded when I asked them this question said millions of naira, others hundreds of millions, no one could muster the courage to say a billion or so. Boy! I never knew my people where that ‘cheap’ and I told them so. So what do you think would be my response if asked? Hundreds or thousands of millions or a billion? ‘No, no, that’s just too small. ‘Everything’ about him for I cannot settle for less. ‘Thief!’, ‘Ole!’, ‘Barawo!’ I could hear you scream, but why should I settle for less?
The young King Solomon found himself in the same predicament. God gave him a blank cheque when in 1 Kn. 3:5 God said “ask for anything that you want me to give you.”He knew what lies ahead of him and he knew he could not settle for less. His response was strange, even strange to God and God was pleased with him. He asked for God’s Spirit (v.9), invariably asking God to have his way in his life. Would you do same in the face of such a tempting opportunity?
He acknowledged that the throne was not his but God’s, for it was only a privilege for him to sit on the throne in place of his father David. Moreover, he referred to the people as God’s and not his. He was only a privileged caretaker, so God must leads and his will must be done. All he needed was God’s Spirit.
Do you feel the need of the Spirit of God today in your life especially in this your lenten journey? Why not invite him now. Like Solomon God gives us a blank cheque and requests we fill it up.
Sing now: “I need thee every hour…” and “Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.” Pray too with Deut. Chapter 6 and Ps. 121 & 131.
SHEPHERD ME O LORD BEYOND MY STRENGTH.
