DAY VIII: THAT CRY WILL NOT GO UNANSWERED

Read Mk. 10:46-52.
It’s really frustrating when you find yourself in a hopeless and helpless situation, especially when you feel that you have done all things well. You have prayed and are still praying but things are not working out for your good. Don’t loose hope, trust God and still keep praying. Lam.3:21-26 comforts us with the ever assuring words that God’s steadfast love is being renewed every moment and for this we should hope; and that it is rewarding to wait in silence for the Lord’s saving help. Is it?

Hear this story of a young friend of mine who taught French for me a while ago when I was a principal of a school (anyway she still calls me “my principal”). She went through a very difficult and hopeless situation last year.
She got suspended in her place of work in the month of February due to the wickedness of men (her senior colleagues in her unit). They did a shady deal in their unit and roped her in. A passenger who was in possession of hard currency above the required limit was defrauded by these her senior colleagues to the tune of $7k without her knowledge but got her involved with a gift of $500.

When the passenger reported the incident her seniors denied knowledge of the deal which was meant to be $3k originally but collected $7k (though they eventually refunded the whole sum). She told her story, even the passenger admitted that she was not even privy to the deal and as such was innocent but she was scolded for not reporting her senior colleagues. The case was referred to their head quarters and she was placed on suspension with no pay and no time frame.

During this period her rent got expired and the landlord even increased the rent; she missed out two promotional exams and no concrete words was coming from the authorities on her situation. She had to do was to cry to God in prayer.

‎She did all the novena  – our Lady of perpetual help, St. Anthony, St. Michael etc. ; booked masses, visited the blessed sacrament, took the suspension letter to church and presented it before God, fasted and followed the 40days journey faithfully. In all these she said Fr. I will not loose faith in my God, I will keep praying for He will answer me one day. This is a test and I will not fail in my love and trust for God.

Elections came and there was a change of guard, meaning no clear hope in sight. What would happen to her case? It seemed a journey too far – an indefinite suspension. But she remained resolute like the blind beggar who called out to Jesus for mercy (Mk. 10:48).

Respite eventually came in June, the indefinite wait was commuted to six months suspension. Then a new DG was appointed, would he sign or when would he sign the reinstatement letter? God being God did what he knows best. By the second week in December she got her reinstatement letter and by the next week got her posting. She is back at work now and receiving her salaries once again.

Friend, no matter your hopeless and helpless situation don’t keep quiet, cry out loud to the Lord as Bartimaeus did in Mk. 10:43-54; and know that your cry will not go unanswered. Ps. 34:17 says, the Lord hears the cry of the poor; in v.6 it’s says that when the poor cry out, the Lord hears and saves them from distress.

God will hear your cry too as he heard the cry of Hannah the mother of Samuel, Bartimaeus the blind beggar and my little friend. Take to hear the words of Lam. 3:21-26 and don’t stop crying to God.

Sing “I need thee every hour” and “It’s me, it’s me, it’s me O Lord, standing in the need of prayer…”. Pray with Deut. 8 and Ps. 34, 121.
SHEPHERD ME O LORD BEYOND MY STRENGTH.
