Read 2 Sam. 11:1-27.
Do you know that a duty has been assigned to you? Where are you now and what are you doing in respect to it? Abandoning or delegating them to somebody I suppose? That duty more or less defines you. More often than none one can get into (serious) trouble when it is abandoned or neglected.
King David is a clear shining example. 2 Sam. 11:1 says it was the time when kings were meant to secure their territories in battle, but David, the mighty warrior who slew lions, bears and even Goliath was not there; others (Joab and the other troops) had to do his work. He was having a swell time.
Away from his duty post he was confronted with another battle that even in all his valour could not defeat – LUST. This battle became an hydra for him, one situation leading to the other – lust, adultery, scheming, then murder and possession of the woman. What a shear wickedness!!! He lost this battle because grace was not with him; he walked out on grace when he abandoned his original duty.
Anytime we walk away from our duty, we walk out of grace. Without grace our lives become messed up. Is your life already messed up? Then there is the dire need for you to return to your duty post. Make that decision now and grace will relocate you to cleanup your mess.
Sing today “Amazing grace” and pray with Deut. 11, Ps. 16 & 25.
SHEPHERD ME O LORD BEYOND MY STRENGTH.
