Read Mt. 14:13-21.
The greatest evil in our world today is not terrorism, cancer, wars, hunger or the likes but INSENSITIVITY. Man’s heart has really grown cold. We don’t care anymore, it’s always “me, myself and I” that is why we find it very difficult to be merciful (cf. Lk. 10:30-32; 12:16-20; 19-21).
To tell you how terrible and horrible it has been for instance, accident victims are being robbed of their “seeming material” valuables instead of been either rushed to the hospital or given medical attention. Most times we either walk or drive pass such accident scenes feeling indifferent or at other times with sighs like”Eya, what a pity!” “hey! God should help that one ooo!”. I know am guilty of this, what about you?
Our world will continue to experience the ugly situations affecting it until we all become sensitive and show the face of mercy as Jesus wants us to. For Jesus’ disciples the people should go and sort out themselves (Mt. 14:15). Are you any different from them? Why not show the face of mercy by being sensitive today (v.16), would you?
In St. Maria Faustina Kowalska’s diary n.163, Jesus commanded her to exercise three degrees of mercy: first, the act of mercy of whatever kind. The second is the word of mercy – if you cannot carry out a work of mercy, then assist by your word. The third is prayer – if you cannot show mercy by deeds or words, you can always do so by prayer.
For the past two days now we have started in a little way on the first, I will want you to do it again today and this time strive to include the second. Sing once more meditatively “take my hands and use them as your own…”. Study Deut. 21.
SHEPHERD ME O LORD BEYOND MY STRENGTH.
